INFORMATION FOR FARMERS.
Tho chapter of Farm Notes, on the fourth page, to-day, by our Special Contributor, is shorter than usual, on account of the limitations of space. Some useful information is given with regard to horses. It is shown that the bicycle, and the motor ca ,- , have not dispensed with the need for horses; and that the man who is engaged in breeding good horses is not likely to lose money thereby, There are also hints for fitting on, for the first time, a new collar on a horse, so that it niay not be a misfit and so hurt the animal's shoulders. How to train the polt to be a fast walker, is a bint worth knowing, as no farmer of any idea of the value of time, or of any progressiveness, would think of walking behind a slow travelling horse, after being used to one with better paces. This is specially necessary in tb-e case of plough horses, as the amount of work done in a day will be greatly increased if a horse can "etep out and cover the ground." The utility of lime as manure is clearly demonstrated, and it is shown for what classes of land lime is most suitable—such, for instance' as for geaty or boggy soils, in which the proportion of vegetable or organic matter is very considerable. In land which is run dovyn in condition, and in which the available supplies of organic matter are limited, the use of lime is seldom productive of good effect.
