The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company report:—At Masterton on Wednesday we had a fair yarding of sheep and a small entry of cattle. We succeeded in selling all the sheep with the exception of a line of hoggets. All the cattle sold at current rates. Sheep—Fat wethers 14s, fat forward ewes and wethers 10s, store ewes and wethers 9s 3d, fat ewes lls lid to 12s 2d, black-face ewes in lamb 8s 9d, ewes in lamb 8s 3d to 8s 6d, cull ewes in lamb 4s, hoggets 6s 9d offered. Cattle — Fat cows £Q to £6 lls; cows just calved, £i to £i 15s, forward cows in calf JE3 5s to Mi 2s ; cows in calf, backward £2 14s; calves 39s 6d.
Messrs F. H. Wood and Sons, Ltd., report:—At our Mastorton fortnightly stock salo pn Wednesday there was a heavy yarding in sheep, all classes being well represented, and the quality good. We had keen competition throughout, with the result that at the close of the salo only one pen of ewes remained unsold. In cattle the-entries were not as numerous as at previous sales, but some good beef cows, choice daii-y stock, and young stock sold freely at sound rates, a few old cows only fai I: ng to soil. In mutton a line of 260 fat ewes made 11s, others 10s to. 10s 9d, rough ewes 8s to 9s. In wethers a line of 400 extra good made 10s 9d, small 2-tooth wethers Bs, 4 and β-topthowes 9s, 2-tooth ewes Bs, good conditioned Down lambs 7s, ewes in lamb (according to age and quality) 5s to 8s 6d, Beef cows £o 16s, others £5 Is to £o ss, forward cows .£3 12s 6d, best dairy heifers £Q 2s 6d, others £5 to £5 ss, young steers 4 ; 3 ss, good calves £1 10s. IMPORTANT SALE AT CLAKEVILLE. Messrs F. H. Wood and Sons, Ltd., held a clearing sale at Clareville, near CartQrton, yesterday (Thursday), on account of Mr F. Monckton. There was a largo attendance of buyers, including several from distant parts. The sheep, which comprised stud and flocks, were a good and wcll-oondUioned lot, The studs were first submitted. Bidding opened somewhat dull, and in several cases vendor's reserves were not reached; but livoned up during the progress of the sale, and before the closo nearly all passed lines had been cleared. Two pens of 3shear Shropshire ewes sold at 1£ guineas, the balance of ninety being subsequently quitted at guineas; Shropshire rain lambs reached 1| to 1} guineas, thirty being disposed of; four-shear Shropshire ranis soil at 2 guineas, and one-shear at 2| guineas ; three-shear stud Eomney rams reached 3 guineas; four-shear stud Bomney ewes sold from ljj to U guineas; sixty-four two-shears being quitted at from 2 to 1 guineas. Tho prices for flock sheep ruled as under:— Romney ewes in lamb, 13s 8d to Us 6d ; Shropshire owes in lamb, 10s; ewe hoggots, 7s 10d. Light horses, £12 5? to £3155; sheep dogs, £3. A large quantity of machinery, tools and sundries reached, satisfactory pricos.
