A meeting of,the Committee of the above was held in the Institute on Tuesday last. *i i ■ : : \■; 1 ■
Present Messrs Feist, Boddington, Carr, Waodroofe, Bennett, McCar'dle, Teakle, Yile, and Hales, On the motion of Mr Bennett, seconded by Mr Boddington, Mr Feist was unanimously re-elected Chairman for ensuing year:'
The minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed.
The Chairman laid before the meeting tlie report arid balance sheet submitted to the Borough Council (which has already appeared). .Mr Teakle intimated to the Committee his desire'to relinguish the offices of lion, secretary and treasurer. On the motion of Mr Teakle, seconded by Mr Boddington, Mr Hales was appointed to fill the vacancy.'-. Mr Boddington moved a vote of thanks to the retiring secretary, and in bo doing spoke in the highest terms of the untiring energy displayed by Mr Teakle in his endeavors to make the Masterton Library a success.
Mr Bennett seconded the motion, also bearing testimony to Mr Teakle's devotedness to the cause,
Mr iYoodroofe, as an old resident, stated his conviction that the Masterton people owed a large debt of gratitude to Mr Teakle on account of his strenuous efforts on behalf of the Library, After several gentlemen had spoken in favor of the motion, it was carried unanimously,
Mr leakle in a few words expressed his appreciation of the kind manner in which the vote of thanks had been accorded, and said that he should always have the interests of the Institute at heart. The secretary drew the attention of the meeting to a notice received from the valuator for the Borough, shewing the assessment of the Institute property for 1880.
A general opinion was expressed that the property was not rateable, and the matter was left in the hands of the chairman to arrange. Several accounts were presented and ordered to stand over until the next meeting.
The secretary was authorised to pay certain accounts presented at the last meeting.
l the « otion of Mr Hales > seconded by Mr McCardle, it was resolved that the time of, meeting should be altered from 3 to 3.30 p.m. on the last Tuesday in the month.
It was resolved that the sub-comuiittee appointed for the purpose be authorised to expend the balance of the sum formerly voted for the purchase of books, and that the question' of a further expenditure in that direction be disoussed at next meeting.
