To the Editor of the Wairarapa Daily.
Sir-Will you kindly allow me to call the attention of charitably disposed people to the urgent want of a Charitable Aid Society here 1 There is no lack of material for such a Society in the place, and I believe the only reason one has not been formed is because it was not known to be needed, but it is a fact that, owing to the long depression of trade, there has been a great struggle for many to keop bcdy and soul together, and when, as in certain cases in our midst, sickness is added to the want of work, and the bread-winner of a family is disabled by a lingering disease, then the struggle is fearfully hard. It will be a standing disgrace to us if we permit destitution to be felt here, wh le we are squandering our money—or mir creditors'—in p'easures. andneverbestow a thought on those who are suffering and distressed, and there are such, unfortunately, anion? us. It is much to be regretted that the Hospital Committee shirked their responsibility in this matter, especially after having received money for the express purpose of charitable aid. There is no excuse for the Committee, as it could easily have called a meeting to organise a Society to deal with the matter if it considered the duties too onerous. I hope that the people of Masterton will come forward nobly, and remove the sligma that is now resting on us, I enclose my name, &c, and beg to subscribe myself Sympathy.
