A letter was read from Mr Thompson "f the Prince. f Wales Hotel, asking the Committee lo receive a destitute person named Bowles, whom he had kept for the past six months. The Committee decided that it could not grant admission without the usual medical certificate. A question of charitable aid, which was raised in connection with this application, was held over for a special meeting of the General Committee. A letter was read from the Matron of the Hospital, resigning her appointment, on which a long discussion took place. It appears that a short time back the matron had decided to marry an ex-patient named Hammond, who was subsequently employed in doing li g | lt work about the premises, From such a step she was very strongly dissuaded by the Rev. J. McKee, of whose church she was a member. The Chairman of the Committee having his attention culled to the mutter, pakfoff Hammond, with a view to breaking off the engagement. An objection was raised by° the visiting member of the Committee that he oghtto have been consulted before any employee of the Hospital was either suspended or dismissed, and the Chairman admitted that he was in error in having acted without the sanction of the visiting member. After Hammond was paid oft', Mr Moore, the visiting member, reinstated him till the Committee met. The Committee passed the following resolution re Hammond: "That the Treasurer he authorized to pay Hammond to date, and that the question of his further employment be left to a sub-committee consisting of Messrs Moore and Bennett." Re the matron, the following resolution was passed: "That the sub-committee see Ihe matron, with a view to arrange if possible, for retaining her services, it heinir understood that the Committee would he willing to continue her services whether she remained single or married." The fjuesiiiin of whether Mr McKee's remonstrance had been carried too far was then discussed, and the majority of the members present carried the following resolution; "That the Committee regret I Mr JieKeu's injudicious interference" in the Hospital management,"
