TARATAHI-CARTERTON RACE CLUB.

To the Editor of Ik Wairarai'a Daily, Sib—As promised by my letter pub lished in yesterday's issue, I herewith forward fur the information of those gentlemen who have a claim against the abovo Club, a statement showing the financial position of the said Club. I would first like to comment upon your leading article of the 10th inst. before referring to the said statement, You say that no answor was received to the letters sent to the (acting) secretary and Mr T. Ray. Now, sir, the writer of those letters was not Mr Bannister, but whom, pray! On referring to the race cards and papers connected with the late race meeting, the name does not appear, therefore I presume the writer must have been suffering under an hallucination. The letter in question states that the writer won a hack sweepstakes with his mare Cabbage Tree. The entry wa, made in the name of Mr Bannister, so, under the circumstances, the stewards could not recognise the writer's claim. Had he forwarded an authority from Mr Bannister to receive the stakes, then the' writer would have had a just cause to kick up the bother he has. However, there are some men who scarcely have a limit to their ambitious desires. As to Mr Ray being requested to bring the matter before the stewards of the late race meeting, the above explanation will sullice for its not btiing done. Furthermore, through the medium of the Press and by verbal request, the stewards were summoned to meet on several occasions to settle up the affairs of the Club ; but I regret to state that with the exception of two or three of those gentlemen there was never a quorum present. We have now taken the matter seriously in hand, and have this morning sent round a collector to collect all subscriptions due to the club, If this fails, to publish their names. Before concluding I must contradict the statement made to the effect that Mr Ray was a steward. Such was not the case. Perhaps your informant would bo good enough to refer to the race cards. He will there find their names. In conclusion your readers will see by the statement below that Messrs Ray and Bennett have a claim against the club to the amount of £3olos, but those gentlemen will, I am convinced, waive their right to be paid before the others have received what is clue to them.—l am, etc. E. E. Edmonds,
