MR PETHERICK AND THE EDUCATION BOARD.

(From the N. Z. Times,) (To the Editor of the Neio Zealand Times.) Sib—l trust that there is somo inaccuracy in your report of the meeting of the Education Board on Wednesday last. lean-

not think that our chairman could possibly have used such an expression as that reported to have been made by him relating -to Mr Potherick, myself, and the Wairarapa election, If the remarkß were made as reported, it will be my duty to call attention to them at the next meeting of the Board, when, if explanation is necessary, I have no doubt that I shall be able to prove to the satisfaction of tho Board that the fulfilment of a duty I had taken on my own shoulders alone influenced me in endeavoring to procure hardly-earned money for those that I knew urgently required it. lam,&c, Georqk Beetham,

August 29,1879. [The remarks referred to were very much condensed. Our reporter states his impression is that Mr Pliarazyn merely referred to the fact of Mr Beetham being a canvasser for votes as a reason why he (the chairman) had not paid the claim, so that Mr Beetham should not be laid under the imputation of having obtained his sanction for tho payment for electioneering reasons, not that he really thought Mr Beetham would do so. Mr Pliarazyn therefore desired the Board to deal with the matter rather than leave it solely to him as chairman, The subsequent remarks of other members of the Board confirms our reporter in this impression.—Ed N.Z. Times.
