TARATAHI-CARTERTON HIGHWAY BOARD.

A meeting of the Wardens was held al the office of the Board on the 26th inst,, at 2 p.m.

Present-Messrs W. Booth (chairman), 6. H. Lister-Kayo, and J. Reynolds. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs L. Nix and C. Strawbridge.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.

The Treasurer showed the balance thus Main road, £llß 3s Ud ; Wards' account, £7919s sd; total, £19719s sd.

The following accounts were passed and paid:—Main road, £sl 9s; Engineer, £3O; petty cash, £2 7s Gd; clerk, £lO.

A letter was read from the solicitor, requesting the Board to provide a sealj for which the order was given,

Notice was received from Mr D. Dalgetty that the gorse had not been cleared from the road by Mr Tailored in an efficient manner. The Warden was authorised to clear the road by day labor, the said labor to be charged to Mr Tancred.

• - Notice was received from Mr Eaton and others that a gate was erected across Nix's line, which was a nuisance, and requesting the Board to have the same removed.

Mr R. Butler and others attended re the formation of Belvedere road from where already metalled to the Maungatiriri bridge. Th» Warden replied that if the settlers were not in a position to raise or collect the promised subscriptions the Board could not undertake the work, which the Engineer calculated would cost £IOO.

Mr Menkin attended and explained that a culvert on the Cemetery line had been filled up, and so turned the surface water on to his property, and that of his neighbors was very much flooded, He was instructed to communicate with the Warden, who would report upon the same to the Board,

Mr W. Bambry, sen., attended, and requested that tho creek which carried the water fvom his land might be cleared from logs, etc., as the water brought down by the railway cuttings was unable to run off, and was doing him serious injury. ■The Warden was authorised to spend £3 in clearing the creek.

The next meeting was appointed for the 30th September.
