HANSARD CHIPS.

THE HUANGARUA ESTATE, Sir Francis Dillon Bell saidlt is not very long since I took it upon myself—l trust I may have the permission of the Hon. Mr Martin to say so—to remark to that gentleman, in jest, what a capital thing it would be for him to form a company, and to give the Agent-General & good premium for floating it, for the purchase of the valuable estate he ha 3 r«contly acquired in this Island I said so on account of an extraordinary statement having been made that the Agent-General received a large amount of money for his services in floating the company to which the Hon. Mr Waterhouse has referred. MAOANDREW's PROTEST, At present the Ministry were, figura-tively-speaking, button-holed at every street-corner regarding some twopennyhalfpenny advertisement. He did not think sucli a state of things should be allowed to continue. WATERHOUSE ON BELLAMYS 1 .. For instance, lis found to his very great astonishment, that, some seven or eight months after Parliament had been prorogued, considerable amounts were due to the House Committee by members for refreshment provided during the previous session. These amounts wereMnuch larger than honorable members would be prepared to expect, and he found that, while this was the case, the Committee were paying the bank a considerable amin the shape of interest upon a large overdraft. He referred to this because he thought it was a thing which ought. to be put an end to in order to prevent similar abuses for the future, If honorable members did not pay their accounts at the proper time, there ought to be some provision for deducting tjio amounts owing from their honorarium. It was not right that the committee should be paying interest upon an overdraft, while honorable members were owing these large amounts.
