TINUI.
(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT,) July 2nd, 1879. Since writing last the weather has been very boisterous, with torrents of rain, flooding all the rivers and creeks; causing approaches to bridges to give way, and washing away newly-formed roads. Slips are numerous, making travelling dangerous. On Thursday and Friday it rained so hard that on Saturday the river rose rapidly, and a heavy flood was quite expected. Had the rain continued till Sunday, the Tinui Flats would have been under water, but Sunday broke fine.
The newly-formed road in the Mungapakeha lias been partly washed away; this, of course,.shows the folly of deviating from the original line, where the foundation k good, with abundance of metal, and although it may have been more expensive, there is no" doubt of its being the best, The expense that will now liave to be incurred in repairing the new road would, with the first cost, complete a substantial lino where.it was first laid off.
The approaches to the Tinui bridge have been partly washed away; this structure will have to be strengthened, Mr Baker most expeditiously got his men to work, and are now busy repairing the same.
I hear Mr Mangusson has sold his interest at Wliakataki, and that the purchaser intends erecting an hotel there in! place of the one burnt down in April last.
There is but little stirring just now. Tinui was never so dull. No donbt much of this is owing to the depression generally felt, and the difficulty in travelling for want of good roads, The mail carrier did not arrive here till six o'clock this evening. It appears a new hand wassent to-day, and not knowing the road went some considerable way off the right track. Some uneasiness was felt for the mailman this afternoon, thinking that some accident had befalleii himbut these fears ware set at rest when information came that the veritable Mitchell was flood bound at the Upper Taueru, and a new hand had taken his place. The weather is still threatening, and we expect more rain,
