MEETING OF THOMAS EVAN'S CREDITORS.

There was an adjourned meeting yesterday m the estate of Mr Thomas Evans, to enable the trustee to bring up a report and produce the debtor s books. Mr W. G. Jackson was-in tho chair. Mr Stafford, in conjunction with Quick, appeared for Mr Cudby ; and Mr Allen for'tho debtor.

Mr Fisk, one of tho trustees, reported that they had inquired into the condition of the e3tate, and found assets to the valuo of £470, including book debts, £250; stock, &c., £80; horse feed, etc., £2B, The debtor bad assured him (Mr Fisk) that these were not included in the bill of sale, The amount of indebtedness was £502; this was exclusive of the security by bill of sale. One item among the assets was originally £3O worth of pigs, which had since been changed into - bacon ; the oats had also been—turned into horseflesn, while the spirits had been consumed. He had not possession of the books, but could get them. Tho assets appeared oil paper only. , , The Chairman: The pigs, oats, and spirits all swallowed up! Lead on, Macduff. . , • i Mr Stafford: An action for pigs and oats and book debts will leave a handsome sum for the creditors. The prospect of a dividend appears to be dwindling away. Mr Fisk explained with regard to some land transactions that Mr Evans had purchased 20 acres of land at Caiteiton originally for £OSO and had since borrowed £BOO on it. Mr Stafford wanted to know what had become of the £3OOO Mr Evans had made in some eighteen months. He would suggest that Mr Evans be examined oil oath as to tho whole of his transactions. Mr Diamant wanted to know what had become of a spring trap which used to be about the house. Mr Fisk said it. had been made over to MrsEvsns. The Chairman thought if there was anything " crooked" the estate had better go through the Bankruptcy Court. Mr Bennett moved-That the deed of assignment'bo assented to ; second by Mi Fisk.' •

Mr. Diamant moved, and ;Mr Black seconded—That .the debtor be requested to file a declaration of insolvency at onco. Both the amendment and motion; were lost, so that matters remain in statu quo for the present.
