UPPER PLAIN ROAD.

Sir —"Would you kindly allow me thfough four valuable paper to call the attention )f the Masterton Borough Council to the langorous state of the Upper Plain Road, with stumps standing on both sides of the road within a fow inches of the metal, Now, it is easy enough to avoid them in iayliglit, but it is by no means so easy on i dark night to keep clear of them when passing vehicles. For instance, on Saturday night last I was driving home from I Masterton in my trap, when, in passing soino people on the road, I pulled on ono side to avoid a collision, and in doing so ran on a stump and was thrown with great violence to the centre of the road. legs becamo entangled with the roins, which had the effect of stopping the horse, after dragging mo along the road for some distance by one leg, Fortunately, I escaped with rather a severe shaking and the loss of a few pieces of skin, what might otherwise have been a serious accident. I trust the Council will see it their duty to have the .stumps removed before a more serious accident occurs,—l am, &c. E. E. Chamberlain.
