FIRE AT OAMAEU,
At one o'clock this morning a lire broke out at CoganV boarding-house, Thamesstreet, and it was found impossible to extinguish it. The following places were burnt down Cogan's boarding-house, Currie's grain store, Lippcrt's grocer's shop, Swinard, tobacconist, James, bootmaker, Keenan, boarding-house, The cause of the firo is unknown. An inquiry will be held. Insurances—South British, £IBO on Lippert's shop and £350 on stock; £3OO on Swinard's shop. Victoria, £SOO on Currie's bcilding and stock. New Zealand, £350 on Keenan's boarding-house; £74 on Swinard's stock. Norwich Union, £SOO on Cogan's building and furniture, . RUNNING INTO A DRAY. Nelson, Wednesday.' PRIZE FIRING, ■ , Rifle Camp.—lu the second match an orror occurred in working off ties at the 35 points. The proper order is—Slxarland, Nelson ; Hitching, Nelson ; McLeod, Thames; Skinner, Auckland ; W, Ballinger, Wellington ; Turner, Blenheim, The second and third rifle and carbine matches were concluded early this morn ing. The winners are Second (rifle' match—Beid, Thames, 37; Brown, Nelson, 3G ; Newton, Thames, 36 ; Sharland, Nelson, 35 ; McLeod, Thomes, 35 ; Coristie, Dunedin, 35; Skinner, Auckland, 35 ; Ballinger, Wellington, 36. • Third (carbine) match : Thomas, Thames, 37 ; Burr, Napier, 37; Somerville, Wanganiti, 34 ; Coleman, Waikato, 34 ; Howe, Wanganui, 33 ; Gordon, Thames, 33; Bannister, Wellington, 33; Moore, Auckland, 33.
The fifth and sixth matches are now going on, Weather very fine and calm. Excellent shooting is being made. Hutt, Wednesday, HUTT AGRICULTURAL AND HORTICULTURAL SHOWS.
There is a large attendance on the ground. Competition in live stock very limited, except in dairy stock and pigs. There is an exceedingly good show of flowers and fruit. Prizes were awarded as follows Horses, (draught), Hicks' Black Douglas, 1. Roadsters: Michell's Troubadour, 1. Sheep : First prize for ram of any breed, J. C. Dick, Fat sheep : Bryant 8r03., 1; Barber, 2. Other exhibits very mediocre. Cattle, (shorthorns): H. Mayo's Prince Charle, 1. Any other breed : E, J. Riddiford's yearling bull, 1. Milch cows: Valentine 1. Fat Cattle: E. Barber, 1. Pigs: Otter, Berkshire boar, 1; Barber, 2, Gear and Barber took all the prizes except for bacon pigs, which was won by Peter Laing, There was a good show of butter and vegetables. Sydney, Wednesday. GOVERNOR ROBINSON, A large meeting was held in the Town Hall yesterday. It was decided to invite Governor Robinson to a farewell banquet, and present him witli a farewell address prior to his departure for New Zealand, Wellington, Wednesday. MASTERTON FIRE, It is ascertained that the loss of the National Insurance on Masterton fire is only about one thousand.
