THE MURTAGH-FALLOON FEUD.
[From tho Wellington Chronicle.]- • Up Mssterton way there dwell two men. named Murtagh and Falloon, between whom there exists a deadly feud, Every oilier day there cornea a telegram, of which the i'olloiving is a spe6 ; men " Master ion, Tuesday. Murtagh and Falloon were at it again last evening. Falloon impounded Murtagh's horses out of tho disputed, paddock, and. Murtagh went after Falloon with a gun," And this sort of thing has been going on for a long time. Now the story runs that Murtagh is off with one of Falloon's horses, and that tho latter, armed with a bowie-knife and a six-shooter, is in 'hot pursuit. Then heigh, presto! the position is reversed, and it is Falloon who is fleeing for his very life, with the avenging Nemesis in the shape of Murtagh on his tract. Thmgs must sometimes be lively in tho chief thoroughfare of Mastei'ton as thwe two fillibustcrs go "prancing around" There is, however, one remarkably s'gulaf feature al )ut this chronic feud. . Although each-in turn has been " going" for tho other, yet c.irious>ly enough Murtagh never contrives to fetch Frlloon, and punch his head, while Falloon has not, during the six weeks'state of warfare, managed to get hold of ard Mack his'eyes. 1 Now, Messrs Murtagh and Falloon, this sort of trifling is a fraud upon the public.' It is not "good form" for you vo bo galloping about, breathing death and slaughter, one the other, for six 'weeks at a sii'cich, and to have all this wired all through the colony, from the North C.'pe. to tho Bluff— aud yet nothing to crime of it. Itejlly if you two bullying, hectoring do not perforin something practical, we shall begin to think that neither of you is of much account, that you are both mortally afraid of one another, and that your mutual' threats are the merest bounce. If Messrs Murtagh and Falloon desiro to preserve their character for great bravery, let them meet and settle tliir feud in a twenty-four.feet ring. They are, we think, about the same weight, and ought to be fairly matched. A trifle could bo got up for stakes, and if timely notice is given, we will do a graphic report of " the mill," If Messrs Murtagh and Falloon do not adopt this suggestion, they should stop their senseless, childish, and . contemptible masquerading.
