IMPORTANT TO WOOLGROWERS.
, Mr W. Anderson, a well-known woolbroker in Dunedin, lias addressed the following letter to the Ota'go Daily Times:- " By the last 'Frisco mail I have received advices from my frieiids in England, announcing the arrival in London of several vessels with consignments of wool from me. They complain bitterly of some clip being insufficiently skirted, and of & plentiful supply of daggerings being left on the fleeco. This is a very serious fault on the part of fanners and woolgrowers, and ought to be put down with a strong hand.' In examining wool, in our local auction.rooms, it is impossible for buyers, in all'cases, thoroughly to satisfy themselvcr that the fleeces'arc fairly skirted and. docked, tho objectionable mate being invariably wrapped inside tho fleeces, but tho customers on the other side find it'.out,,to their.cost, when the sorting-boaid is put .into requisition. Woolgrowers hero may Hatter themsolvCß that they are doiiig'a very> clever trick by thk dishonest practice by. r obtaining more money for their wool, than thoy would otherwiso receive, This is an extremely short-sighted policy, because although they may succeed in deceiving buyors ono season, the marks are carefully noted for future guidanco, and the price accordingly. So prejudicial is tho e&fl of one season's fault on the character ofjfl clip from this 'particular cause that A though the woolgrower, from remorse jH conscience or other motive, may af JH wards be induced to treat his wool flj neatly before sending it to market, _ ycjH will probably elapso before his statiiaßH bo rocovored, and consequently tho mojH| which he has wrongfully become JBm seSsed of in tho first instance will beJHj rificed, perhaps threefold, before hJHB again command a fair valuo for'his wool. Somoyears ago this evil 'of false packing prevailed extensively in England' and Scotland, until it was taken in hand by the Bradford Chamber of Commerce, at a full meeting of which body it was resolved to print, and distribute, throughout the country, a circular, calling tho attention of farmers and wool producers to the. Act of Parliament, by which a severo penalty (I think £SO) was exacted for its infringement. This had an immediate and most salutary effect; and if no similar law oxists in this colony, I think it is-'high-time some such protective measures wcro adopted." . ',''
