THE LATE MURTAGH-TAIT CASE.

To tk Editor Wairaiufa- Daily.

Masterton, Jan, 25th. Sir,-—ln yesterday's issue you publish a long statement of what took place between myself 1 and Messrs Murtagh and Tait, and I am often asked in the street what is this all about—what is the meaning of it—we cannot understand it—and etc., etc, and if you Mr Editor will allow mo a little space in your valuable paper I will oxplain it all in a few words. Well, Sir, it is -very well known that Tait is a very simple man, and about two months ago when this cunning man (Murtagh) came to him, flourishing his cheque-book, telling him he had £BOOO to lay out somewhere,, and he was looking after a place in Masterton to spend it, and if Tait took him in as a partner in his 'valuable corner lie (Murtagh) wpuld build an hotel on it, giving Tait half profits. Well, Sir, we can imaging how Tait's simple heart jumped for joy at the prospect of becoming half owner of a large hotel, andso sold Murtagh half interest in all ho. possessed, and received on account of the purchaso money of half tho estate £3O, which is all he lias received of' tiio - said purchase money, which was ; to be.-£250, but no' sooner had Murtagh got into Tait's house than he set his wits to work to have the' lot, and we are daily seeing the result, Hoping you will give the above a space in your valuable paper—l am, &c. A, Falioon. -
