(Per Press Assoeiatiop—Copyright. LONDON, December 21. The amazing Smethwick by-election ends with the polling to-day. Scenes are expected at the declaration of the poll. The Liberal candidate was almost forgotten, but he claims the result will be a surprise. Mr Pike says there has been little opportunity of talking constructive politics. Meetings have been destroyed again and again by deliberate Socialist rowdyism. Mr Mosley asks for a majority that will shake the Kingdom to its foundations. All partiesi yesterday hold numerous meetings, which were very lively. Mr Baldwin*'- Socialist son spoke on f of Mr Mosley. Mr Baldwin’s daughter will to-day drive Air Pike’s motor car round the constituency. Mr Pike s final meeting was abandoned in disorder. The candidate and fibers were not permitted to speak. The “Daily Telegraph’’ predicts that there will be night scenes in the streets unprecedented in modern times.
