GENERAL HERTZOG’S CHANGED ATTITUDE. UNITY WITH BRITISH EMPIRE. (Per Press Association—Copyright. CAPETOWN, Dec. 17. General Smuts, speaking at Paardekraal, thanked General Hertzog for what he had done to bring unity among the people. He said General Hertzog had done what no one else could do. His attitude towards the British Empire had totally changed and his followers had changed with him. They were not now going to strive for a republic, but were satisfied with the position as it existed to-day.
