There have been many rumours that • the Cantonese, after occupying virtually J the whole of Eukein, are advancing on Hangchow and Chekiang, which have declared independence from General Sun-Shuan Fang. It is now reported that Hangchow has fallen, to the Cantonese. The Shanghai-Hangchow railway is cut at Linping, twelve miles north-east of Hangchow, presumably by the Chekiang soldiers, though another ’ report states that General Sun-Chuang-Fang’s troops cut the line near SungKiang, over twenty miles south-west of Shanghai, aud are making preparations for a stand there, against the Cantonese advance on Shanghai.
