GAINING IN POPULARITY. OVERTAKING THE SUEZ IN IMPORTANCE. FEB PKEaS ASSOCIATION—CorYRIGIir WASHINGTON, Nov. 19 It is announced that for the fiscal year of 1923, the Panama Canal profis totalled 12,063,000 dollars, representing a gain of 2,862,000 dollars over the previous year. All the nations but one were increasing their shipping through the Canal, 3,907 vessels utilising the Canal in 1923, compared with 2,736 vessels in 1922. The Governor (Mr Morrow) of the Canal states its commercial importance is rapidly approaching that of the Suez Canal.
