GREYMOUTH, June 23.
Tho Grey Valley Miners Union refused to mako a 10 per cent levy for the striking miners, but took up a voluntary subscription for the Reefton ; miners, to ho handed directly to the women and children. A number of tho State Miners Union refused to pay the levy struck by the Federation four weeEs ago. It is understool that Mr. Semple tried to effect a compromise, with little success. THE FEDERATION DENOUNCED. WELLINGTON, June 21. , Last .week tho Seamen’s Union declined to give financial assistance to tho Federation of Labour in tho cause of men idle at Waihi and Rcefton. Tho Secretary of the Union, W. Young, has now received an appeal; from Mr. Fagan, Secretary of tho Rcefton Miners’ Union asking for direct assistance for the men there. He adds that our fight should not ho bracketed .with Waihi, Wo are locked om for not complying, with conditions foreign to our agreement. Human life is at stake with us, also the very existence of the Union depends upon the result.
Mr. Young, in replying promises to bring :tlio matter before tho union,, and expresses regret at the unwarranted action of the Federation of Labour in bracketing Rcefton with Waihi to save their face.
NO HELP FOR WAIHI. ASSISTANCE SENT TO ENGLAND. WELLINGTON. Juno 24. The question cf aiding tlio Waihi strikers came befoie the Wellington Operative Bakers' Union on Saturday night. It was decided not to forward any subscription, but instead the general secretary was instructed to cable £lO to the wives and children or the London dockers.
