London, May 9. Ruin fell during the early part of the day. The weather continues lowering with shifting but fairly good light. Gregory in a vigorous display made 11 in one over. Grace relieved Jessop with the ball at 67, and Brockwell went on vice Lockwooi at 74. (Received May 9, at 2.5 p.m) Hill and Gregory scored 60 in less than an hour. The third wicket fell for 96. (Received May 10, at 750 p.m) At the close of the day's play the A us* tralianshid lost 8 wickets for 357.
(Received May 10, at 10.45 p.m.) After the luncheon adjournment Lockwood, Townsend and Giace bowled but the batsmen played in the freest style, biing indifferent to all changes. Gregory was missed in the slips when he had made 83 and a moment later gave another chance at the wiGkets. He was heartily cheered on reaching the centuryHe batted altogether three hours and twenty minutes. 4^ Noble showed first rate cricket throughout, displaying a consistent taking style. The partnership lasted an, hour and forty minutes and produced 141 ryns.
