Mr Carter, Leader of the Opposition, stated the abolition of all duties at once would reduce the value of land in Victoria twenty-five millions and cause disastrous results to the people. In the Council the Federation Bill an amendment was adopted feduciug the Governor-General's salary from £10,000 to ±,8,000.
