The minutes of the meeting of 20th February were read and confirmed.

Application 796 — Aitken and Langdon for timber area lapsed, there buug no appearance of applicant.

Application 797 — J Allen for lanJ in Mikonui Special Settlement on north side of Mikonui river to covar improvements. — Moved by Mr Nort..cro t that con--aideration of application be postponed and the opinion of a solicitor be obtained as to the legality of the withdrawal of lands for Midland Eailway Company. This was withdrawn in favor of a motion proposed by the Chief Commissioner and carried that previous to obtaining such legjl opinioa, Messrs JBevau, Northcroft and the mover go through all the premises relative to each withdrawal of Westlaad lauds and report thereon next Board

meeting. — Pending the above, application 797 was adjourned.

Maher for flax license over area along Mahinapua Creek and sea beacb.— Mr Duncan 03 behalf of Mr Marks objected to the granting of this area to Mr Maber as he had lodged au application (No 801) on the same day covering the a--ea applied for and contended as there were twj applicants for the same area it feli-mld be offered by auction, — Mr Maher stated he had made considerable improvements on the ground, two buildings we r e already erected and an acra ot land cleared. His machinery and timber for erection o£ machine shed &c. was ordered and partly on the ground; that he had five men employed in the work done,— -The Chief Commissioner thought that if the application go to auction Mr Maher's improvements should certainly ba valued and allowed for.— Mr Northcroffc contended there was no prescription in the Land Act for auction of similar applications, and gave notice of motion for 17th April, 1889. M, L. ikfoss for flax license of 50 acres along Kumara tramway from Saltwater Creek to the Terema« kau. — Granted as above. Application 802 and 804, J« Marks by his agent W. Duncan for flax licenses of 80 acres each, along road reserves parting Totara Lagoon and at the Auckland Beach.— Granted as above. Application 805. W. Duncan for flax license over beach land between Kapitea Creek and Teremakau. Granted on the same terms, conditions, and rental as other applications. One month's rental and license fees in each case being paid. Application 801, W, Marks by his agent; W. Dunean for flax license. " This area was through priority of application granted to J. Maher. Application 803. J. Smith by hiej agent W. Duncan on behalf of J. Allen applied for transfer of Deferred Payment Section 157, Poerua Survey District, to the said John Allen. Declaration produced. Ordered to be granted when due advertisement completed, I Application 806. P. W. Neilson by his \ agent J. Andoraon applied to be allowed to capitalise unpaid instalments, Deferred Payment Section 204. All conditions being fulfilled, application was granted. Application 807. — J. H. Kowe, Jacksons Bay Lands. The District Land Officer notified that Howe had paid his deposit on the application for sections 226 and 227— 103ac. 2r. 36p. Blocks XIII and XIV, Okura Survey District. License ordered to issue. Mr Burger, Mayor of Kumara, appeared in support of application from the Kumara Borough Council that their endow* raent reserve No. 203 be vested in them. Resolved on the motion of Mr Matheson, seconded by Mx Northcroft, that Government be asked to formally veat same. Memo from the Under Secretary for Lands, concerning the powerlessness of the Government in the matter of lifting the Midland Railway Enervation over West Coast lands was read and received. The Koss Borough Council applied by letter £or a' recreation ground at Jones's Flat. —Resolved if on application to the Warden's office it is found thit no part of :he land is held under the Mines Act that Government be recommended to grant the reserve desired. Letter waa received from Mr John Byrne, of Paroa, asking to have his application to pu 'chase auriferous ground at Paroa recommended to the Midland Railway Company. '1 he Board resolved that they could not do this, but would recom* mend a3 previously that Government grant a lcaae of the area on which bis hotel and other improvements stand. Petitions were presented by Mr Jeppe Anderson on behalf of himself and P. W. (STeilson, to be allowed to select area cisc» where in lieu of deferred payment land, washed away by the Kokatahi river. — The Hoard could not entertain the prayers of the petition?, as tbey had no power in the matter, but suggested that a rebate might bs allowed on rentals for those portions washed away if areas were verified by an authorised surveyor. } The Receiver of Land Revenue notified receipts for the period of £170 8s 9d. The meeting then terminated.
