ELECTION FOR NORTH MELBOURNE.

ONE THOUSAND SOVEREIGNS MISSING FROM A MELBOURNE BANK.

Sydney, April 8.

The following are the probable starters for the Hawkesbury Handicap to. morrow :— Childers, Rosinante, Gunild, Sweet, Chutney, Falmouth, Major, Braidwood, Retrospect, Sweetmeat, Bob Sawyer, Strathearn, Gipsy Cooper, The Knave, Sapphire, The Barber, Black Swan, Black Eagle, Verdict, Lord Burghley, Othello, Creewick, Harmony^ Saunterer, Lord Lisgar, The Dean, Juventas, Croydon, Avernus, Woodlands, Fragments. Owing to the mutilation of the original telegram the above list is incomplete, in regard to three or four horses; A repetition of the telegram has been called for.

Melbourne, April 8.

The election of a member for North Melbourne in the Legislative Assembly, in the room of tbe late Mr Story, took place to-day, and resulted in tbe return of Mr Munro.

April 9.

A bag, containing one thousand sovereigns, is missing from the Commercial Bank of Australia. The affair is involved in mystery, but some evidence indicates that the money was stolen .
