REEFTON MINING.
(HERALD, JANUARY 12.) Battery. — Owing to the incline tramway being out of gear, the crushing for the Just- in-Time did cot commence until Wednesday last, the battery will be occupied reducing that company's stone up to about the end of next week, Good progress is now being made in the ereGtion of the new batteries and tenders close on Saturday next for the building of the machine-house (labor only). Just-in-Time. — In the lower main level the distance gone from the winzs is about 70 feet. Half way up from this tunnel the reef has been opened on going south, and a good face of stone was exposed when I visited the mine on Saturday last, and on that date there was sufficient stone in paddock after crushing four days to asßume that with the quartz obtained during the crushing there will be quite 300 tons put through the boxes before the clearing up takes place. Walhalla. — The time ot protection being up on Monday last, work was resumed at this mine, and from the general appearance of the lode in the present face, it would leave one to imagine that a profitable block exists in the ground, and in the course of a few months it will be proved if such is the case or not, lam informed that it is the intention of the company to drive the main tunnel a sufficient distance south to test their ground. If the shareholders do not reap much good from this claim, their drive will come in very handy for the Just-in-Time and El Dorado Companies to prove the lode on the underlay. El Dorado.— Work has been resumed by this company driving from the Walhalla tunnel to their ground, which will be a distance of about 25 feet. Fiery Cross, — The works as mentioned in previous reports are being proceeded with, and good payable atone is coming to grass, which, when crushed should go quite an ounce to the ton. Hopeful. — In quoting the amount of gold obtained during the last crushing in my lost report, an error, either by myself or the compositor was made. It should have read IGOO ounces, instead s as it did, 600 ounces. The reef in the No. 5 level has been driven on a good distance, and is

Welcome. —This mine may be considered thoroughly opened up, that is to say on one level. There are seven stopes opened showing a thickness of stone averaging not less than two feet. Immediately after the Just-in-Time has finished with the mill, t\m company will take charge. The upper paddock belonging to the machine company is filled with stone from this mine, and from the quantity of quartz in the paddocks belonging to the Welcome, there will not be less than five or six hundred tons put through at the first crushing.
