The Po9tmaster-General, in replying to a deputation of the Chamber of Commerce, approved of the route fo> a duplicate cablei from Western Australia to Singapore, and hinted at the the desirability of obtaining the assistance of other Colonial Governments. The heat in tlie interior is intense. Several fatal sunstrokeß are reported. The salaries of the State Schoolmasters have been increased. London, January 11. Despatches from Asia state that the Russians have cut off Turkish communication between Erzeroum and Trebiaond.
