TN pursuance of the provisions of an Act -*• of the General Assembly of New Zealand, intituled "The County of Westland Act," 1868, I, GERARD GEORGE FITZGERALD, Esq., Returning Officer for the Hokitika Electoral District, do hereby give notice that an ELECTION will be beld for the return of one qualified person to serve as a member of the County Council of Westland for the said Electoral District, in the room of Walter Scott Reid, Esq., resigned ; and that the Nomination of Candidates will take place at the Warden's Court, Hokitika, at noon on Friday, the twelfth day of May, 1871, and that the polling (if necessary) will be taken on Friday, the nineteenth day of May, 1871 ; and I further give notice that at such Nomination every Candidate must be proposed by an elector duly qualified to vote at the election, and seconded by another elector so qualified.
