The S. M. Herald of the 4th reports :■—
The markets present no marked change. The new wool clip is coming in freeiy, and a very large quantity will be shipped hence in time for the May sales. At public sa!e3 here the chief enquiry has been for good conditioned clips and fine wools; for these buyers have paid full prices; but the bulk of the receipts are going forward to London on growers' account. The produce sales held last week were marked by unusual activity, particularly in shipping parcels of tallow, at ratts showing 40.s to 50h per ton advance on those ruling during the preceding week. Hides of all descriptions command very full rates: extra weights brought 4*d. Other colonial produce is in good demand. A large quantity of wool was catalogued for to-day's sales; biddings were brisk up to a certain point, and had vendors felt disposed to meet the trade a large amount of business might have been done. The receipts of wheat and flour have been large, but as our stocks had become very much reduced, prices were well supported until the past week. They have now a declining tendency, and may he expected to fall much lower" in view of a plentiful harvest, which is now being reaped in this colony and in South Australia.
