In the import markets to-day, business generally has evinced no signs of activity, and transactions, with tho exception of what was done in sugars, have beon of litfclo account. The sale of sugars attracted a, large attendance, and notwithstanding tho extent of the quantity offered — 10,900 bags — the whole was disposed of. The reduction submitted to did not exceed 30s per ton on the average, a fact with speaks favorably as to the strength of tho market rather than otherwise. Medium counters to good and fine realised 31s to 31s 9d to 32s 3d to 335 ; middling yellow crystals brought 32s 6d to 3Js ; low middling white crystals were quitted at 32s 6d to 335 ; middling white crystals sold at 343 Gd to 355 ; and good to fine white crystals at 36s to 38s. A shipment of thirty tons of corrugated iron, Tupper's brand, 24 and 28 gauge, was placed on terms withheld. In tobaccoes wo hear of a line of about 100 boxes of Bucknor's tens having found a buyer at close on Is 4d. Trade parcels of hams and bacon have been quitted at 14d. duty paid, for be3t brands ; the demand, however, is insignificant. A consignment of sardines has changed hands at 4s 9d for quarters, and 7s 9d for halves. Confections are moved off more freely. More than one shipment of Keiller's assorted has been disposed of at 10id to 10 \&. A brisk inquiry is maintained for liquids, more especially for geneva. A line of 2100 cases of JDKZ was sold at a very full figure, and we hear that larger transactions are still pending. Sales of Burkes stout are reported at 10s. A pai'cel of Byass's stout was placed at 8s 11 Jd ; and sales of Foster's continue to bo made at 93 9d. A parcel of ton pipes of common red wine has realised close on Ll4.
