CLEAVAGE BETWEEN INDIA AND BRITAIN OVER KING OF NEPAL
NEW DELHI, Nov. 23 (Recd. 10.40 pm).—A sharp cleavage between the Indian Prime Minister, Mr Nehru, and the British Government has developed over the question of recognition of Nepal's boy King. Informed sources said today that Britain has urged caution, pointing out that Nehru’s position of insisting on the democratisation of Nepal’s Government amounts to direct intervention in the affairs of an independent neighbour. Sources said that Nehru intended to announce non-recognition of the boy King and support of the old King and demands for Nepalese Government reforms yesterday, but is delaying in deference to strong British objections. There are indications that he may make a formal announcement, during a Parliamentary debate on foreign affairs next week.
