Won One Service Match, Second In Another SYDNEY, Oct. 5 fßecd. 9pm).—The New Zealand rifle team had a field day today. Two service teams matches were fired against Australian States. The first match, the Go.’don Highlanders, was won by New Zealand by a margin of three points, with a score of 346. This shoot comprised ten snap shots at the 22-lnch disc at 300 yards. The time allowed was three seconds per shot.- The possible score for the eight-man team was 400 points. The scores of the New Zealand team were: J. Johnson 48. R. Tantrum 48, H. King 45, L. Hutchison 45, F. Jeune 44, R. McVicar 41, T. Prichard 40, A. Paynter 35—total 346.

Second equal teams were New South Wales and Soyth Australia, with scores of 343 each. In the second service shoot, the Northcote match, teams were required to start at 600 yards, where the targets appeared for one minute. During this the teams were required to run from 600 yards to 500 yards and fire five rounds. The targets then went down for 15 seconds to allow for adjustments of sights for elevation and windage. They then appeared for a further minute, during which the teams had to advance to 400 yards and fire a final five rounds. This was a ten-man team in. which two men fired at. each target. The New Zealand team finished second in this match with a score of 440. The winner was Queensland, with 452 points out of a possible 500. Victoria filled third place with 433 points. Scores of the New Zealand team were: F. Soler and R- Wakefield 92. T. McDonald and H. Donald 91. H. King and J. Johnson 86, F. Jeune and L. Hutchison 86, J. Keoghan and R. Tantrum 85—total 440. Tomorrow the Commonwealth teams match will bp fired to complete the teams competition.
