SEOUL, Oct. 5 (Recd. 9 pm\— Major-General Edward Almonds 10 tn Corps commander, assumed a reserve role in the Seoul-Inchon area after liberating the South Korean capital and completing its mission—to open up a second front in Korea and enable the hard pressed Sth Army to break out from the defence box In the south. , The troops are now regrouping ana reorganising. For the first time since they invaded and established the Inchon bridgehead 19 days ago, no Communist resistance was reported in their sector. The 7th Marine Regiment completed the capture of Uijingbu, 10 miles north of Seoul, late last night after a fierce 48-hour battle against elements of three North Korean divisions now reported to have scattered north-

ward after exchanging their uniforms for civilian clotning. The Americans found most of the town of Uijongbu flattened to rubble after continuous air af.l artillery bombardment. Eastwards the South Korean 6th Division plunged another 10 miles today to capture the important road junction of Churchon and reach the 38th parallel. Meanwhile, on the East Coast, the South Korean 3rd Division reahched forward 40 miles north of the parallel, and behind them the South Korean Capitol Division continued to advance and fan out to mop up a small Communist group in the hills. Since September 15. when the initial landings at Inchon were made the 10th Corps has killed or wounded about 15.000 North Korean troops and taken 8000 prisoners.—Reuter.
