SUPER FLIGHT AND JAMELL SELECTED FOR DOUBLE AT WINGATUI

Features of the opening day of the Dune-lit Jockey Club’s spring meeting at Wingatui today are the presence of a number of last season's juveniles who will be having a final race to tunc them up for the Dunedin Guineas next Saturday, and the appearance of a large field of two-year-olds in the McLean Stakes. The totalisator double will be on the open sprint, the Telegraph Handicap, third on the programme, and the eleven-furlong Ranfurly Handicap, the sixth event. With two dozen juveniles scheduled to make their first appearance of the season, save for the various “parades.'’ the McLean Stakes becomes a gamble which experienced backers will shun. As it is over four furlongs any youngster which fails to jump out. smartly will be under a severe handicap, and the chances of the starter being able Io get them away in line appears very slender. A couple of juveniles which have already shown that they are wel] forward are Master Key and Montana, and with anything Ihjce a decent despatch they should be in the picture. Jamell is likely to continue his winning way in the Telegraph Handicap, and Super Flight's success at the recent Birchwood meeting suggests that she should be lhe logical choice foi the Ranfurly Handicap.
