Photographer Has His Camera Thrown Into The Harbour

WELLINGTON, Yesterday (PA) A Press photographer was attacked and his £3OO camera flung into the sea on the Wellington waterfront this afternoon. The photographer is Mr. William Charles Hopper, who had visited the wharves to take a photograph of waterside workers picking up their discs before work was resumed at 1 p.m. An angry crowd gathered around Hopper and after verbal exchanges he left without taking a photograph, to return to his office. While walking up Jervois Quay he stopped to talk with a “Post” reporter, and while they were standing together a man leapt at Hopper and flung him to the ground. The camera was kicked, and the bulb shattered, and it was then wrenched from his hand and flung over the side of the wharf. Hopper was not injured.
