WANGANUI HORSES PREPARE FOR OTAKI
Several Wanganui-trained horses will be racing at Otaki either tomorrow or on the second day of the meeting, next Saturday, and they got through satisfactory work yesterday morning in their final try-outs. No. 1 grass track was available and provided good gcVig. Paddy Joe (N. Wallis) slipped over five furlongs, being clocked home in 1.3 1-5. The Parchment horse is engaged in the six-furlong Hema Te AO Handicap, in which he will be ridden by P. Carroll. He appears to have benefited with the racing he had at Wanganui. Good News (R. Burt) and Parlous (M. Burt) jumped off just after passing the five-furlong peg and ran the first two furlongs in 24 1-5, finishing together to record 51 1-5 for the halfmile. Good News was going well within himself and made friends for bls engagement in the First Puhi Maiden 'tomorrow. Background slipped over half a mile in 51 3-5. The Bahershah mare will be ridden by W. G. Eales in the Second Puki Maiden at Otaki. Gay Gordon was sent a mile, being picked up by Wave Crest at the live furlongs. He ran the first half in 51 and the six furlongs in 1.17 1-5. being eased up over tie final stages to register 1.44. Gay Gordon is to run in the main event, the Raukawa Handicap, at Otaki and will be ridden by P. Carroll. Red Ruler worked well over five furlongs in 1.3 3-5. He had run a mile in 1.46 on Tuesday morning, when the pegs were out. 10ft. The Broiefor't horse was to have been ridden in the Raukawa Handicap by N. Belsham, but the Hawera apprentice fractured a collarbone yesterday morning and the mount goes to W. G. Eales.
