Canterbury Staves Off Challenge For N.Z. Hockey Shield
CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night (PA). —Canterbury retained the Hockey Challenge Shield yesterday by drawing with Wellington one-all. Canterbury was perhaps lucky to hold the score to a draw as generally Wellington played better hockey, particularly in halves and backs.
It was only dour defence, particularly by R. Randle and L. Smith that kept Wellington out. J. Tynon, J. Mulheron and R. Johansson were outstanding for Wellington with H. Sim and D. Tooby showing dash in the for. wards. J. H. Hannah was the star of the Canterbury team. Canterbury got a gift goal half way through the first spell and Sim brought the scores level in the second half and there were other occasions on which Wellington almost scored.
