Dealings In Trucks Got Waiouru Soldier Into Trouble
i TAIHAPE, Last Night (OC).— i Pleading guilty to the theft of a jeep motor vehicle valued at £2OO, Eric ' Stewart Woods, a soldier of Waiouru, was committed to the Supreme Court at Wellington for sentence by Messrs E. Loader and C. Smith, Justices of the Peace, today. Woods was also committed for sentence on a charge of obtaining a truck valued at £lOO from C. H. Webby by falsely representing that the stolen truck was his 1 property. ‘ O n a charge of the theft of £2O ’ from John James Lee, of Feathers- ’ ton, accused was sentenced to a ■ month’s imprisonment and for being f unlawfully in possession of an auto--1 matic pistol he was convicted and discharged. The pistol is to be confis- ’ cated. 1 Evidence was given that the stolen jeep was one of 72 bought by W. R. 1 Harding, farmer, of Wanganui, who I said he had handed the vehicle to accused to be repaired. | Clive Handley Webby, motor me- ’ chanic, of Taihape, said he had ex- ‘ [changed a motor truck for a jeep [which accused had in his possession. 'He was unaware that the jeep had been stolen. | Sergeant. R. Griffith, who prosecuted, said accused had sold the truck to Lee for £2O, but had not transferred the vehicle.
