Mr. J. Timbs was elected a life member at the annual meeting of the Marist Cricket Club. Messrs. H. W. Ford and T. N. HayCampbell and Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Hurley were recent Wanganui visitors to New Zealand House in London. Mr. F. E. J. Holley, senior meteorologist in Fiji, is a visitor to New Zealand for the conference of the Fiji, Australia and New Zealand Air Regional Organisation which opens in Wellington next week. Mr. V. J. Nicholson, of Palmerston North, has been elected president of the New Zealand Pipe Bands’ Association. Mr. Nicholson is chief of the Manawatu Scottish Society and president of the Wellington-Hawke’s Bay Pipe Band Centre. Mr. W. G. Boswell, Auckland city valuer, has left on a visit to America where he will attend a world conference of assessors in Atlantic City. He is making the visit at the invitation of the National Association of Assessing Officers of America. Mr. Albert Barker, Mayor of Suva and editor of the Fiji "Times and Herald,” has been elected to the Legislative Council of Fiji. Before his defeat in two previous elections, he had an unbroken record of 22 years as a member. Wing-Commander B. S. Nicholl, formerly of 'Masterton, has been appointed Director of Reserves in the RNZAF. He succeeds Group Captain T. W. White, whose retirement was announced yesterday. Wing-Comman-der Nicholl, who is 43, has held the post of deputy-Director of Reserves for the past two years.—P.A. I Messrs. A. H. Collins (chairman of the Wanganui County Council), T. Mitchell (deputy chairman), L. A. Mackintosh (member) and S. L. Orr (county clerk) were visitors to Palmerston North yesterday for a conference of Ward 4of the Counties' Association. Mr. G. Palmer, actingchairman of the Waitotara County Council was that council's representative.
