Basketball Reps The Taihape basketball team to play Wanganui at Wanganui next Saturday will consist of the following players: E. and M. Mako, R. Clarke, N. Christensen, J. Welsh, D. Martin, A. Arrow, J. Whale, K. Keating. The team will leave by train at 6 a.m. The Great Benyon The Great Benyon show opens at the Town Hall, Taihape, tomorrow night for a season of three nights. The Great Benyon runs a thread of mystery through the whole show and the girl is Evelyn Talma, who disappears so many times she must begin to doubt her own existence. There is also a company of supporting acts. Ernisto Verracchia (piano accordeon virtuoso), Doreen (cute crooner and dancer), Evelyn Talma (personality girl and escape expert), f)oris Southern (illusioniste), Sean O'Hagan (a broth of an Irish boy), Wee Michael (the scream), and Assheton Harbord (musical director). Dance at Omatane. The dance at Omatane on Saturday in aid of the United Nations Children’s Appeal Fund resulted in a net profit of approximately £l3. The music was supplied by Mr. A. R. Potaka. The M.C. was Mr. E. Martin and the chief organiser Mrs. F. Newton (Omatane). The competition was won -by Mrs. C. Weir. Card Evening at Utiku. A card evening was held at Utiku on Thursday under the auspices of the Utiku Table Tennis Club, the prize-winners being Mrs. Matthew and Mr. B. C. Marchioni. Consolation trophies went to Mrs. Trotter and Mr. Ellis Robinson. W.D.F.F. Dance at Taoroa. A very successful dance in aid of the Taoroa W.D.F.F. was held in the local hall on Saturday night, there being a large attendance. Mr. Des George supplied th e music. Mr. W. Coleman was a n efficient M.C. The competition fox a cake was won by Mrs. D. Collins. Main Trunk Boxing. The Hawke's Bay Boxing Association is sending a team of ten ooxers to the Main Trunk boxing championships to be held at Taihape on September 30. The Kiwi Sports Club (Palmerston North) will also be represented. Teams from other centres will be participating. This was revealed at a meeting of the executive of the Taihape Boxing Association on Monday, when Mr. L. Cooke, president, presided over an attendance of 15 members. It was resolved that senior and junior championships be held, the age limit for juniors to be 16 years and the weight limit 9st. There will also be a paperweight class, not exceeding 7st. Mr. Colin Gregory, who acted as referee at the Wanganui championships, and Mr. C. Clark (judge) were congratulated on the manner in which they had discharged their duties. Votes of thanks were accorded Messrs B. Somerville. F. O'Keeffe and L. Howard for providing cars for the Wanganui trip. Mr. Ray Hutchings offered to donate a challenge cup for the winner of the junior featherweight, championship. The donor was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. House-warming Party. A function of interest which took place during the week-end. was a house-warming party given for Mr. Henry Leary, who moved from Kocke Io a farm in Manui, Mangaweka, about two months ago. The music for the community sin"in" was supplied lv Mesdames A. M. Gordon and W. C. Coleman. Mrs. Dalrymnle pave two solo; and her accompaniment was rlaved bv Mrs. A M. Gordon. The conference will be held on Friday, October 20,, and the Dominion championships will be decided the following day. The railway championships have been arranged for Sunday, October 22.
