Large Shark Killed In Tory Channel

BLENHEIM, Last Night (PA).—A shark 225 ft. long was killed at Te Awaiti whaling station in Tory Channel today. The shark was first sighted by Mrs. E. Huntly, who, with her 14-year-old son, was fishing from a small dinghy near the whaling works. She screamed for help and, quickly cutting the dinghy’s anchor rope, rowed for the shore. The shark turned and followed. Hearing the screams, Mr. G. C. Perano and several of his employees at the whaling station manned a chaser and went in -search of the shark. In the meantime Mrs. Huntly reached the shore without incident. The men in the whale-chaser found, no trace of t'he shark, which was thought to have been frightened off. However, fifteen minutes later after Ihe ’chaser returned to the station the shark came alongside. It was spotted by Mr. C. Huntly, who grabbed a bomb used for killing whales and dropped it into the water. The shark was killed by the explosion.
