JUMPERS IMPRESSIVE ON AWAPUNI TRACKS

PALMERSTON N., Last Night (Special).—One of the highlights ot I this morning's track work at Awapuni was a round over the big fences on the new steeplechase course by Gaiety (M. Andrews) and Hinewaka (W. Rout). In all they jumped three brush fences, commencing with the double, the logs, hencoop and sod wall. They gave a first-class display of fast jumping. Gaiety will contest the Waikato Steeples on Saturday. The Reiver (I. Lord), looking none the worse for his race at Otaki, jumped nine fences out in the oval. He gave a fine display of clean jumping. Pieck (M. Andrews) also jumped the country and he improved as he went. He was slow going into one fence, but the reason for that was the bad light. Greek Court (Andrews) and Sir Raleigh (J. Garth) were given a warm-up and then were put over the big fences. They were together all the way. The pace was solid and it was a grand school over nine fences. Minion and Christopher Wren were schooled over six flights of hurdles and gave a good display of fast jumping. The fast work took place on the trial grass where the going was good. Terrific (J. Gunn) sprinted five furlongs in 1.6 3-5 and was never under pressure. Ngaiti (W. L. Aitken) and High Spot (M. Thurston) worked well over five in 1.5 4-5. Bridge Law (McCullough) and Relate (Gunn) took 1.5 1-5, and Destination (W. J. Broughton) and Parker (V. J. Sellars) 1.5. Gossiper I. Lord) was home well in 41 3-5 to complete six furlongs in 1.23 3-5. Chief Officer (R. Gibson) slipped over half a mile in 52. Kippo (Broughton) and Lady Aurora (Gibson) were kept to an even pace over a mile in 1.48. the last six taking them 1.21 and the last three 40 2-5. They worked well. Beauform (W. Rout) and Matara (McCullough) ran their mile easily in 1.51.
