Bounties On Vermin. A reduction by bait hi the amount of the bounties paid for the destruction o£ vermin was a vounced yesterday by the Wanganui Acclimatisation Society. The bonus for hedgehogs is now sixpence, for hawks the same amount and for stoats, weasels, and ferrets 2s will be paid in future. Since April 1, 1949, the Wanganui Acclimatisation Society has paid out for 1144 hawks, 2320 hedgehogs and 505 stoats and weasels. The bounty scheme was inaugurate in 1939 and was finaced by a 5s surcharge on game licences, the money being paid into a fund administered by the North Island acclimatisation societies.
