BETTER STANDARD OF PLAY IN EMPIRE GAMES BOWLING
AUCKLAND, Last Night (PA).— There was a better standard of play all round in the second day’s play of the Empire Games bowling. The greens were still fast, but the players gauged the strength better than on the first day. In the singles J. Pirret (N.Z.) and A. Newton (Australia) are the only unbeaten players. Pirret defeated W. Kripp (Canada) after a nard and dourly contested game, in which 27 ends were played. In the pairs Exelby (N.Z.) and Lewis (Australia) had a great tussle. It. was only a shot by Exelby on the 18th end which ran the shot bowl off and gave him a four that Jed to an ultimate win.
Australia had their revenge in the fours game between Skoglund (N.Z.) and Cobley (Australia). It was witnessed by a big crowd. The turning point came when Cordaiy, the Australian three, trailed the jack for four. At that stage New Zealand was leading 13 to 8.
