Mine Dispute In Buller District
WESTPORT, Last Night (PA).—All miners in the Buller district did not work today because of a dispute concerning payment for deputies employed in State mines for two days lost early this month because of no doctor being available at Stockton. When the time was lost owing to the original dispute about the doctor not being available at Stockton the deputies were paid but they were not recompensed for that lost when the second stoppage occurred, those at Stockton and Millerton losing two days with the other mine workers and those at Denniston the one day.
The deputies decided not to work until the payment is made, as they claim that, being paid on a salary basis, they are entitled to their wages.
As the mines cannot operate without the deputies all work is at a standstill today and will remain so until a settlement of the dispute is reached. The other mine workers are supporting the deputies' claims for payments during the stoppage of June 7 and 8.
