COAL STRIKE IN U.S. ENDS ON SCHEDULE, BUT ANOTHER LIKELY SOON

NEW YORK, June 19 (Recd. 7.35 p.m.).—John L. Lewis’ one week coal strike ended on schedule today, amid growing fears of a new fullfledged walkout next month. The: vanguard of Lewis’ 450,000 United Mineworkers trooped back to work at midnight eager for a lull week’s wages before beginning their annual 10 days vacation. Contract negotiations between Lewis’ president of the United Mineworkers and coal management so far have been fruitless. If no settlement is reached by June 30, when the miners’ present contract expires, the unions’ tradition “no contract no work” policy will keep the mines closed indefinitely.
