Rangitikei Hockey Teams Announced For Saturday’s Trial Matches At Marton
A veritable feast of hockey will be provided at Marton on Saturday, there being no less than seven games —four club fixtures and three represtntative trials—set down lor decision on the Centennial Park grounds. Club games are being played in the morning and in the afternoon potential players for the Rangitikei teams to take part in the New Zealand tournament at Masterton in August will be seen in action during a series of trial matches. The first trial is between Taihape and a Rangitikei C team and (his is to be followed by a Possibles v. Probables match, comprising players drawn from the senior A division. A senior B Possibles v. Probables match will also be played at 3 p.m. Club fixtures will comprise the first series of matches in the sealed handicap competition. Each grade has been divided into two divisions and the full draw for Saturday is:—
Section A (sectionl): Hunterville v. Athletic at Marton at 10 a.m.; United v. Tuis at Kakariki at 11.10 'a.m.. Section 2: Swifts v. Rata at Marton at 11.10 a.m.; Te Kauwau v. Huimai at Marton at 11.10 a.m. Section B: (section 1): Hunterville v. Ohakea at Marton at 10 a.m.; Tuis v. Athletic at Kakariki at 10 a.m. Section 2: Swifts v. Bulls at Bulls at 10.30 a.m.; Hula a bye. Trial matches: Senior A, Possibles v. Probables at Marton at 3 p.m.; Rangitikei C v. Taihape at Marton at 1.45 p.m.
Senior B: Possibles v. Probables at Marton at 3 p.m.
The sole selector (Miss M. Wilkie) announced the following teams last night to take part in the Senior A trials:—

HOW THE TEAMS FINISHED IN THE COMPETITION. Both the winners of the Rangitikei senior A and B grade women’s hockey championships in Rangitikei—Te Kauwau and Rata—went through the season undefeated, although each drew one game. United and Bulls suffered only one loss. Most goals during the season went to the credit of United, with 39, but they also had a fair number registered against them. Best defence was shown by Rata which had only two goals scored against them and both of these were shot in the last game. Te Kauwau had four goals registered against them and Bulls six. Bulls and Rata both did well in the B grade, showing their superiority to a marked degree. Each team scored 36 goals—the second highest tally of the season, and played one game less than the teams in the A division,. Ohakea, which had nearly 50 goals scored against it, and Swifts with 39, were not strong either on defence or attack, and finished at the bottom of their respective competitions. REVALUATION OF MARTON BOROUGH TAKING PLACE. Three officers from the Valuation Department at Palmerston North and Wanganui, Messrs T. Brazier, F. Kilner and A. Malcolm, are at present in Marton making a re-valuation of all properties in the borough. Altogether some 1200 properties have to be inspected. The valuers are at present inspecting the properties in the residential area and when that is completed a start will be made on the business area. An official of the Valuation Department yesterday asked for the co-oper-ation of all property owners in the carrying out. of the re-valuation. The Marton borough was last valued in 1939. PERSONAL. Mr. G. H. Denbow and Mr. K. J. Coombe, president and secretary respectively of the Marton Returned Services’ Association, left yesterday for Wellington, to attend the annual conference of the New Zealand R.S.A. Dr. J. S. Yates, of Massey College, is to visit. Turakina on Wednesday, and in the evening will address n meeting of farmers on “Hormones as Weed Killers.” The meeting, which is being held in St. Andrew's Hall, is being held under the auspices of the Turakina branch of Federated Farmers.
