MOTHER AND THREE CHILDREN INJURED WHEN CAR LEAVES ROAD
A woman and her three children were injured, one of them fairly seriously, when the car she was driving to Hawke’s Bay left the main South Road two miles south of Wanganui, shortly before 8 a.m. yesterday and plunged into a deep ditch. They are: Mrs. I. H. Brocklehurst, Kaimatu Road, Inglewood: Head and and leg injuries and badly shocked. Evelyn Brocklehurst, aged five: Head injuries. David Brocklehurst, aged four: Slight abrasions. Ruth Brocklehurst, aged 15 months-: Slight abrasions. It was reported from the hospital last night that all were improving. Mrs. Brocklehurst was travelling from her home to Hawke’s Bay to attend the funeral of a near relative when the car left the road near the outh end of Marybank flat. The left side of the car, a large American sedan, was crumpled where it bore into the side of the drain, but there was little flying glass. Passersby extricated the occupants. Mrs Brocklehurst was removed to hospital by ambulance, the children being taken by private car.
