SUMMER FLOWERS MAKE COLOURFUL PICTURE IN THE DRILL HALL

The Drill Hall presented a colourful picture yesterday when tne Wanganui Horticultural Society held its summer show of dahlias and begonias. Because of unfavourable weather conditions the number of entries was smaller than on previous occasions, but some of the exhibits were of a particularly high standard. The attractive lay-out was favourably commented on by exhibitors and visitors to th e show. A feature of the show was the marked improvement in the decorative work. In thes e sections the quality and numerical strength of the exhibits was superior to that of the 1948 show m Wanganui. Champion of champions at the show was a dahlia exhibited by Mr I. G. Bayly. Wanganui. H e also had the best blooms in the intermediate and novice sections. Best bloom in the advanced section was exhibited by Mr J. Ellis, Palmerston North, and the best seedling dahJia was an entry by Mr G. A. Ammundsen, Wanganui.
