Decrease In Total Defence Manpower In Britain
LONDON, Nov. 30 (Reed. 6pm).— The Ministry of Defence stated that Britain’s defence manpower, uniformed and civilian, totals 1,015,900. Defence personnel, inc.uding womens services, nurses and V.A.D.’s, On October 1. 1948, was 786,900, compared with 931,200 on April 1, 1948. Civilian personnel number 229,000. The Royal Navy’s total strength was 140,500, compared with 144,400 on April 1, 1948; th e Army 419,000 compared with 530,900, and the R.AF. 227,000 compared with 255,900.
